About blogs

I am starting another blog and not for the first time. Many of them, including this one, were born as a result of academic studies. Some of them were created from the desire to find people who share my interests. Among various social communication technology tools, blogs are not on the list of my favorite. I do prefer a combination of few tools together that allow me to share my thoughts in lengths or just write a sentence, quickly grab a picture  that I like (Pinterest), save it or show to my friends (Flickr), I like to have a conversation and receive an immediate response. I want to be private and, in the same time, my thoughts and observations can not be contained inside my head.

Blogs are sometimes overlooked as a significant source of online buzz in comparison to social networking sites, yet consumer interest in blogs keeps growing. By the end of 2011, NM Incite, a Nielsen/McKinsey company, tracked over 181 million blogs around the world, up from 36 million only five years earlier in 2006.

  1. Olga, you show a good grasp of the many different ways blogs can be useful to the individual blogger and his or her audiences.
